SHOPPING AROUND Clothes That Make You Look Smaller |

A big trend in apparel: Clothing designed to make you look smaller. Sales of body-shaping undergarments, designed to tuck in the tummy, thighs or derriere, are growing fast -- up 18% last year to $422 million, according to market-research firm NPD Group. That is inspiring apparel companies to roll out stretchy pants, blouses and skirts that accomplish the same feat. The upside: You don't need the extra layer of a shaping undergarment, which can be uncomfortable and create pantylines. SkinnyPants offers two boot-cut black pants -- "Katwalk" is a dressy, zip-up version; "K-Two" is a casual, pull-on pant. ($69 to $95, at Skinnypants.com). |
